Performance Notes Initiated by Misty
Hey, here is a spot for us to add notes to the performances:
Laura: I thought your performance was inspired and powerful, and deserving of a spot light. Meaning, I am wondering if the lighting in theatre could be dark and you put in a spotlight? The screen is distracting in the back when it is lit up. Also, i think the projector was on too? This note goes for all the performances actually.
Kali: Unfortunately I had to go to the bathroom during yours. Perhaps other clips of white trash? Maybe that's too much editing work. And/or add a naysayer? Like, "white trash are not the most oppressed people in the world, but suffering and stigmatization costs lives, and so its important to understand this form of oppression too."
Josiah: This performance reminded me of Michael Jackson's performance methods in his BAD concert, which I was lucky to see as a kid. He would appear and disappear from different parts of the stage, and perform leaving his body with either a dummy, video image, or double. I'm not sure cuz I was under 12 years old. On the contrary, his walk, of course, were super stylized and he had on cool bright sparkly socks to accentuate his steps/ movements. Seeing your performance, made me wonder what that meant for MJ, to leave his body, and also how could you incorporate color into your wardrobe so that you pop out more. Obviously, MJ was a performance master and he figured out the technique your using to a T. Right now the maroon and black you wore disappears. Sometimes performance methods reappear from our subconscious that are actually emulating performance methods that came before us. I don't think that is a problem, but perhaps a nod to such a cultural icon, or acknowledgement in your speech might be apropos.
Sinmi: I wish I had seen more of yours, I was fixing issues with my phone for my performance. If you're doing standup. You might want to be more conversational and laugh a little at your own jokes. Also, new standup comedians always fill the audience with friends who do their best to laugh at the comedian's jokes, which signals to rest of audience to laugh. So, us performance students should be on board with supportive laughs! My laughs will be ready to rock Thursday night!
Erfan: I look forward to doing/seeing this.
Ethan: You were working really hard in your performance. I think you can do more showing and less telling, and actually make your performance less taxing for you. Especially since the topic is so heavy for you. I agree that you can edit some of the length of your monolog and if you incorporate some choreographed movements that express the cut text, this may help too. I am here to think through ideas!
Gabi: OMG your singing voice is beautiful!
Taylor:
Bummer we did not get to yours!
Misty: I am going to actually start with the selfie song and take picutres of myself and audience. Then, I am going to move into the song where I comment on whitefeminist IG pages. I also need to work on finding an app that does not shut down my music! argh! I need to rehears Serap's note to add expression to my reactions to the white feminists too. I also want to work on the lighting one more time. Damn. I really hope we have time to get this all ironed out today/tomorrow. This feels a bit hectic.

Misty, thank you for your notes. I chose not to go with the spotlight because my performance shifted movements as I told told the story. Also, I believe my emotions effected how I moved across the stage.
